The six grades from DC01 to DC06 are classified based on graded performance. Many foreign trade purchasers and processing factories often confuse the drawing capabilities of each grade. Selecting the wrong material may easily lead to stamping cracking, workpiece rejection and sharp rise in production costs. This article clearly elaborates on the mechanical differences, process characteristics and applicable scenarios of DC01, DC02, DC03, DC04, DC05 and DC06 deep drawing cold rolled coils.
DC grades comply with the European standard EN 10130. All of them are low-carbon soft-state cold rolled steel strips. Internal rolling stress is eliminated through batch annealing or continuous annealing, delivering much better ductility than hard-state cold rolled materials. The larger the numerical figure, the superior the deep drawing performance, more uniform the grain structure and higher the elongation, enabling the material to withstand greater deformation and more complex shaping during drawing processes.
II. Performance and Applications of the Six Grades
1. DC01 General Forming Grade
It features the lowest elongation performance, and is only applicable to simple bending, shallow stamping and flat forming, not for deep drawing. It is widely used for general hardware brackets, simple enclosures, ordinary sheet metal bases and non-stressed decorative parts. It is cost-effective for workpieces with low forming requirements.
2. DC02 Stamping Forming Grade
Its ductility is moderately improved, supporting moderate shallow deep drawing. It is suitable for small and medium-sized conventional stamped parts, such as simple enclosures for small household appliances, metal cabinet fittings and general mechanical gaskets. It enjoys the widest versatility in the market.
3. DC03 Basic Deep Drawing Grade
It delivers standard deep drawing capability with steadily increased elongation, serving as a commonly used material for small and medium-sized drawn components, including kitchenware shells, metal lamp parts and simple sheet metal parts for electric vehicles. It rarely cracks during conventional drawing processes.
4. DC04 Standard Deep Drawing Grade
As the mainstream grade for industrial deep drawing, it boasts huge market demand. With reliable drawing stability and low springback, it is extensively applied to automotive interior parts, washing machine inner tanks, fuel tank shells and precision hardware drawn components. It is the preferred material for mass production.
5. DC05 Extra Deep Drawing Grade
Adopting upgraded grain refinement technology, it offers stronger crack resistance. It is suitable for workpieces with large radian and deep drawing depth, mainly used for inner tanks of high-end home appliances, small exterior cover parts for automobiles and complex special-shaped drawn components.
6. DC06 Super Deep Drawing Premium Grade
It is the highest-grade deep drawing cold rolled coil in the DC series. With optimized internal texture and peak elongation within the series, it can be used for ultra-high difficulty, large-deformation and ultra-thin sheet deep drawing processing. Typical applications include automotive body structural parts, high-end precision die-drawn parts and ultra-thin enclosures for precision instruments, as well as other high-end manufacturing scenarios with strict requirements on forming qualification rate.
III. Key Factors Affecting the Forming Quality of DC Deep Drawing Materials
Annealing Process: Precise temperature control and heat preservation are mandatory for DC04 and higher-grade deep drawing materials, as grain uniformity directly determines the maximum drawing capacity.
Raw Material Carbon Content: Low carbon proportion is the foundation of high elongation performance; the lower the carbon content, the better the ductility.
Surface Finish: High-quality pickling, rolling and degreasing processes prevent indentations caused by surface impurities, thus avoiding damage from stress concentration during drawing.
Thickness Tolerance: Accurate and uniform thickness prevents tearing caused by uneven stress resulting from inconsistent local thickness.
