Rust prevention and protection of steel plates

The main weakness of steel plates is their susceptibility to rusting. Iron undergoes electrochemical corrosion with oxygen and water in the air, producing reddish brown rust. Common methods for preventing rust include:

Coating protection is the most direct means, including spraying anti rust paint, galvanizing, chrome plating, etc. Among them, galvanized steel sheet (white iron sheet) has high cost-effectiveness, and the zinc layer acts as a sacrificial anode to preferentially corrode and protect the substrate.

Environmental control is also important: keep dry, reduce humidity, or add rust proof paper or desiccant packaging. Residual cutting fluid and hand sweat on the surface of the processed steel plate can accelerate rusting, and it should be cleaned and coated with anti rust oil in a timely manner.

For rusted steel plates, slight rust can be removed by sanding with sandpaper or pickling; Severe corrosion can form pits, affecting strength, and it is necessary to carefully evaluate whether it can continue to be used. During daily storage, steel plates should be elevated and kept ventilated to avoid direct contact with damp ground.
